El Diamante's Aden Robles leads Miners to East Yosemite League title

Aden Robles entered high school in 2023, expecting to make a name for himself on the football field.

But in El Diamante’s second game of the season against Tulare Union, that all changed.

Rolling out to pass at quarterback, Robles got shoved by a Tribe defender and landed on his shoulder, breaking his collarbone. That abruptly ended his football career.

But that’s turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

Fast forward to today, and Robles is one of the top high school baseball players in Tulare County.

The El Diamante junior shortstop played an instrumental role this season, leading the Miners (20-7, 11-4) to the East Yosemite League championship —  the program’s first league title in five years.

El Diamante concluded the regular season in a three-way tie for the 2026 EYL championship, sharing the conference crown with Monache (21-8, 11-4) and Redwood (18-10, 11-4).

A three-year starter on the diamond, as of May 14, Robles is among team leaders this spring in batting average (.391), runs (21), hits (34), RBIs (24), doubles (nine), and triples (five).

“He definitely goes above and beyond the hours that we have set for practice,” El Diamante head coach Andrew Riddle said. “He puts in extra work.”

Riddle noticed that right away when Robles went out for baseball.

Even as a freshman outfielder, Robles was consistent in practice and kept making quality plays for a player his age.

That helped Robles earn a spot on the varsity team right away in 2024.

“When he was a freshman, we saw that he was extremely talented athletically,” Riddle said. “He could track a fly ball. He had a respectable arm as a freshman that could be at the varsity level, and he had a beautiful swing.”

In his first season with the Miners, Robles hit just .211 with five RBIs and three extra-base hits (two doubles, triple), but his ascension to the varsity level early paid off.

This year, Robles put together a 16-game hitting streak as El Diamante won at least 20 games for the first time in three years.

Over that span, Robles batted .538 with an .865 slugging percentage, 28 hits, seven doubles, five triples, 17 RBIs, and 18 runs. He did not strike out once during that exceptional streak.

That hot play also led to El Diamante’s success in the win column.

From late March to early April, the Miners even reeled off eight straight victories to position themselves for an EYL championship.

“It’s been great,” Robles said. “The more work I put in, the more results I see.”

It didn’t start that way, though.

Robles did not have a single hit in his first four games for the 2026 season, going 0-for-14.

In a slump, Robles turned to what he knew best — work harder.

And despite the rocky start, his teammates and coaches continued to believe and support him.

“My teammates were saying, ‘The ball will drop eventually. Keep swinging away and put more work in,'” Robles said. “So I just put more work in, and now I’m getting the results I’m seeing.”

Robles opened the season starting in centerfield but transitioned to shortstop during league play to help the Miners tighten up their defense.

That led to the Miners allowing the fewest runs (49) in 15 games among EYL teams.

During their run to an EYL co-championship, they allowed an average of 3.2 runs per contest.

“At shortstop, you always have to be on it,” Robles said. “It reminds me a lot of being a quarterback. You always have to be on it, but I believed in myself. I believe in the skill that I have, and it’s been great. You have to be smart and think fast, just like a quarterback. You have to know everything. You’re the man on the field.”

El Diamante’s run to an EYL championship this season has been a team effort.

The Miners have also received outstanding performances from:

“We expected this,” Riddle said. “We preached to the kids all year, ‘We have the talent. We just have to put it together. We can’t play as individuals. We have to play as a team, collectively. We’re a small squad. We only have 15 guys on the roster, and one has been out for most of the year, so really, we’re playing with 14 guys. Every game is going to require something from every guy to contribute to wins.’ And they bought into that. We’re certainly seeing that.”
