UCLA Bruin fans can prepare themselves for the second generation of a Jones-Drew running back calling the Rose Bowl home. Class of 2027 running back Duece Jones-Drew committed to UCLA back in May and has announced that he’s closing down his recruitment.
After announcing that he’s “locked in” on becoming a Bruin over the weekend, Jones-Drew posted a photo of himself and his father, Maurice Jones-Drew on Twitter, where his father is placing a UCLA helmet on his head.
Former NFL second round pick Maurice Jones-Drew was an All-American for UCLA in 2005, where he put up 1,367 yards from scrimmage and scored 17 total touchdowns for a Bruin squad that finished the year 10-2. Jones-Drew’s success didn’t end in Los Angeles, he went on to have a terrific NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
With the Jaguars, Jones-Drew was a three-time Pro Bowler and earned All-Pro status in 2011. Over his nine-year NFL career, Jones-Drew put up 8,167 rushing yards and found the endzone 79 times.
Deuce Jones-Drew will wrap up his high school career this season with De La Salle High School before following in his father’s footsteps. 247 Sports has Jones-Drew as the No. 44 running back in the 2027 class and as the No. 55 player in California.
We’ll see if UCLA ends up being a good landing spot for the younger Jones-Drew. The Bruins have struggled to move the ball on the ground since joining the Big Ten Conference but with Bob Chesney and a brand new coaching staff, there’s reason for optimism within the UCLA offense.
