Among the whirlwind of question marks surrounding what would happen if LeBron James ultimately decides to sign with the Golden State Warriors in free agency, one of them might have already been answered. What jersey number would the future Hall of Famer wear in blue and gold? Both of the numbers he’s worn throughout his career are could be available with the Warriors.
First, No. 6, which he wore with both the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers along with the USA men’s team in the Olympics, is currently available with the Warriors. However, if James wanted No. 23, a jersey he’s worn dating back to his high school career, longtime Warrior Draymond Green wouldn’t mind.
Green has worn No. 23 for 14 seasons in the Bay Area. He also wore the number during his decorated career at Michigan State. However, if James signed with the Warriors and he wanted to wear No. 23, Green says he would change numbers.
Green was asked on Threads what number he’d swap to if James was going to wear No. 23 with the Warriors. Green responded with a math equation. Green simply said “2+3+5” on Threads, indicating he would be willing to switch to No. 5, a number recently worn by his former longtime teammate Kevon Looney.
Eleven different players have worn No. 23 in Golden State, notably including Green, Jason Richardson, Mitch Richmond and Jeff Mullins. James could be next in line to wear the number if he decides to join the Warriors this summer.
