The Coachella Valley should not expect much of a break from the heat before the weekend.
The National Weather Service extended an extreme heat warning through 8 p.m. Friday, July 10, warning of “dangerously hot conditions” with highs up to 117 degrees.
The slight cool down may be hard to notice, as Palm Springs is forecast to reach 115 degrees Thursday and Friday. Nights will also remain warm, with low temperatures mostly in the 80s.
This is much hotter than usual for early July.
“The heat in the Palm Springs area tends to peak around July and August,” Chandler Price, a National Weather Service meteorologist, previously told The Desert Sun. “However, temperatures Thursday will be up to five to ten degrees above average.”
People can lower their risk of heat-related illness by drinking water often, staying in air-conditioned spaces, limiting their time in the sun, as well as checking on relatives and neighbors.
The National Weather Service’s weekly forecast for Palm Springs predicts highs near 114 on Wednesday, 115 on Thursday, 115 on Friday, 112 on Saturday, 109 on Sunday and 107 on Monday.
