Fire crews stopped a 10-acre vegetation fire from continuing to grow southwest of Shingletown.
The Lava Fire was stopped at around 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 20 in the area of Lava Lane and Rancheria Creek Drive, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection’s Shasta-Trinity Unit. It was reported just before 2:30 p.m.
The fire, which consumed oak woodlands and grass, initially had a moderate of spread, according to Watch Duty, which tracks fires and emergency response.
Its cause was under investigation, Cal Fire said.
Fire officials on scene requested an air tanker, and retardant was dropped across the head and right flank of the blaze, Watch Duty reported.
A helicopter crew also fought the fire, while additional resources were summoned to fight the fire, Watch Duty said.
The fire was believed to have been 15 acres, but better mapping showed the fire was smaller.
