The San Francisco 49ers picked up a hard-fought, 26-21 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
But, the 49ers didn’t get out of the contest completely blemish-free on the injury front. San Francisco left guard Ben Bartch exited and didn’t return with an ankle injury. 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk was also ruled out of the game after suffering a concussion in the second quarter.
Afterwards, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan commented on San Francisco’s injury front.
“Alright guys, injuries from the game. Ben Bartch had an ankle, didn’t return. Juice had a concussion, didn’t return. Siran Neal and Upton Stout were evaluated for concussions but both returned,” Shanahan said.
Shanahan was also asked if starting quarterback Brock Purdy, who is dealing with an injured toe, could make a return next week against Arizona.
“I think there’s a chance, but we’ve got to see how the toe goes. It’s very up to debate, so we’re just taking it a day at a time,” Shanahan said.
Making his 51st NFL start, Mac Jones handled himself well and showed why the 49ers had an interest in bringing him on as the franchise’s backup signal-caller to Purdy. Jones completed 26-of-39 passes for 279 yards and three touchdowns.
Obviously, the 49ers would love to have their franchise man back quickly and back into the fold.
San Francisco did get a bit of good injury news before it kicked off in New Orleans. While wide receiver Jauan Jennings and left tackle were both questionable throughout the week, the pair each played at the Saints.
In addition to star tight end George Kittle who was placed on the IR, San Francisco was without running back Jordan James, wide receiver Jordan Watkins, offensive linemen Drew Moss and Austen Pleasants, defensive lineman Jordan Jefferson and linebacker Nick Martin, who were inactives against the Saints.
