An Inkster man convicted for his role in an auto theft ring that operated throughout Metro Detroit has been sentenced, officials said.
An Oakland County Circuit Court judge last Monday gave Amarion Jordan five to 20 years in prison, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said.
The 23-year-old pleaded guilty in June to a count of conducting a criminal enterprise, according to Nessel’s office.
His attorney with the Oakland County Public Defender’s Office was not immediately available for comment on Monday.
What led to arrest, charges
State prosecutors alleged Jordan was part of an auto theft ring and was responsible for stealing numerous vehicles, including a 2017 Bentley, a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, a 2024 Dodge Durango, a 2023 Cadillac Escalade, and a 2018 Dodge Challenger.
He was charged in December with a count of conducting a criminal enterprise and four counts of receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle, officials said. Receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle carries a 10-year penalty.
Jordan was convicted in 2021 of unlawful driving away of a vehicle and was discharged from probation in 2022, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections. He also has previous convictions for fleeing police and receiving and concealing stolen property, the agency said.
Nessel announced in May 2024 that the investigation into the auto theft ring resulted in the arrests of six people. She said the investigation was spearheaded by her office’s FORCE task force, which launched in 2023 and focuses on organized retail crime.
Officials said the operation targeted new vehicle storage lots at manufacturing facilities, car dealerships, parking lots, and individual residences. The task force worked with the Troy Police Department as well as multiple other municipal and county police agencies across Metro Detroit.
“The FORCE Team, along with the Troy Police Department and law enforcement agencies across metro Detroit, has done tremendous work dismantling this prolific auto theft ring and holding perpetrators accountable,” Nessel said in a statement. “These thefts devastate victims and harm our local businesses, and we will continue to aggressively investigate and prosecute the criminal networks that threaten the safety and economic well-being of our communities.”
Auto theft rings in Michigan
He is the latest to be accused of being part of an auto theft ring in Michigan.
In March, three Metro Detroit men were ordered to stand trial for their alleged involvement in a ring that stole vehicles’ information and entertainment systems.
In February, three Detroit men accused of stealing cars from auto plants’ parking lots across the region were ordered to stand trial.
In September, a 23-year-old Detroit man was ordered to serve 4-½ to 20 years in prison for his role in a stolen-vehicle ring.
