Police are investigating the death of a person whose remains were found Tuesday near the Oakland County Circuit Court, officials said.
Deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office were called at about 10:07 a.m. to a wooded area south of the court building in Pontiac for a report that what are believed to be human remains were discovered, according to authorities.
“At this time, investigators can only confirm the deceased appears to be an adult male,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Investigators said the remains are in an advanced state of decomposition. They said a patient identification bracelet was recovered, and detectives are attempting to determine the medical facility that issued it.
“The circumstances remain under investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available,” officials said.
The incident came weeks after a person’s remains were found in a building on Detroit’s west side.
In May, human remains were found in a home during a search for a missing person on Detroit’s east side.
