Gladwin city officials are asking residents to refrain from flushing toilets and running water after lightning struck a water treatment plant.
The officials said the plant was struck by lightning during a Monday night thunderstorm, and the facility is not operating properly.
“At this time, residents and businesses are asked to refrain from using bathroom facilities, including toilets, sinks, showers, and other plumbing fixtures, as wastewater use could result in sewage backups,” officials said in a post on the city’s Facebook page.
They also said the city’s emergency manager was working to assess the situation.
“We will provide updates as soon as additional information becomes available,” their statement said. “Thank you for your patience and cooperation.”
