Nick Wright’s latest Joe Burrow take involves Mahomes, might be worst

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow will always find himself compared to Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs.

The heated rivalry games between the two and their presence amongst the top five players at their position in the NFL each year fuel the chatter.

But some comparisons are better than others.

During an appearance on “First Things First,” Nick Wright looped in injury conversations while expressing frustration that Burrow ranked ahead of Mahomes on a recent list.

“Having Joe Burrow ranked ahead of Patrick Mahomes on any quarterback list is an unacceptable opinion,” Wright said. “Patrick tore his ACL last year and played more games than Joe Burrow did. Patrick has won two league MVPs, Joe’s won none. Patrick’s been to five Super Bowls, Joe’s been to one.”

It gets worse, as Wright went on to play the “switch teams” game and said Mahomes would have been as successful as Burrow or more if he played for the Bengals, but that Burrow wouldn’t be able to do the same things as Mahomes in Kansas City.

This is all offseason talk aimed at getting reactions, of course. But in such a team-based game, getting overly emotional about one passer being ranked above the other when they’re both in the top five gets rather silly.

If nothing else, Burrow and Mahomes could get a chance to settle it on the field at least once next year, as the Bengals will host the Chiefs in Week 14.
