J.P. Hurlbert

Pick: No. 23 overall (Round 1)

Position: Wing

Height/weight: 6-foot, 190 pounds

Last season: Kamloops (WHL), 68 games, 42 goals, 55 assists, 97 points

Scouting report: Headed to play collegiately at Michigan, Hurlbert is a pure goal-scorer who is prolific in the offensive zone. He plays with pace, good at anticipating plays and possesses a dangerous shot but as to progress defensively. He had an impressive rookie season at Kamloops.

Victor Plante

Pick: No. 47 overall (Round 2)

Position: Left wing

Height/weight: 5-foot-10, 165 pounds

Last season: USNTDP, 57 games, 21 goals, 27 assists, 48 points

Scouting report: Brother of Max Plante, a Wings prospect who won the Hobey Baker Award (best college player). Victor will play with his brothers, including Zam, at Minnesota-Duluth this coming season. Victor doesn’t overwhelm in any category but does plenty of things well. He’s versatile, has great hockey instincts, and plays with energy.

Michal Orsulak

Pick: No. 79 overall (Round 3)

Position: Goaltender

Height/weight: 6-foot-4, 224 pounds

Last season: Prince Albert (WHL), 36 games, 28-4-4 record, 2.22 goals-against average, .907 save percentage

Scouting report: Some draft mocks had Orsulak going higher than this, and he was generally considered one of the top three or four goaltenders in this draft. From Czechia, Orsulak has a 78.8 inch wingspan and combines that with quickness. He competes hard and enjoys challenging shooters.

Adam Levac

Pick: No. 108 overall (Round 4)

Position: Center

Height/weight: 6-foot, 176 pounds

Last season: Peterborough (OHL), 60 games, 16 goals, 28 assists, 44 points

Scouting report: Levac was drafted Saturday on his birthday. He’s a scrappy, agitating center who plays with some bite to his game. He’s suited to a bottom-six role, embracing a defensive role and getting after opponents.

Beckham Edwards

Pick: No. 143 overall (Round 5)

Position: Center

Height/weight: 6-foot-1, 187 pounds

Last season: Sarnia (OHL), 64 games, 19 goals, 26 assists, 45 points

Scouting report: Edwards played Triple-A hockey for Little Caesars (scored 60 goals), so he’s familiar with the organization and area. Edwards had a disappointing second season in Sarnia, falling from 25 to 19 goals. He has an elite shot and will play collegiately at Notre Dame this season.

Luka Arkko

Pick: No. 175 overall (Round 6)

Position: Left wing

Height/weight: 6-foot-3, 212 pounds

Last season: Pelicans U-20 (Finland), 42 games, 11 goals, 14 assists, 25 points

Scouting report: Arkko is a big body who loves to use his body while forechecking and enjoys taking the puck to the net when getting an opportunity. He’s extremely raw and plays mechanically at times, but he’s worth the risk at this point of the draft.
