A 24-year-old Columbus man shot and wounded his 23-year-old sister and then shot himself inside a residence related to an argument over a vehicle.
The gunman was identified as Ontwan Banks, Mansfield Police Chief Jason Bammann said June 22.
Banks later died from his injuries at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital, according to Mansfield police. His sister, Atir Cotton of Florence Ave., was transferred to OhioHealth for her injuries June 19. Her medical condition is not known.
Police said the incident appears to be a domestic violence-related felonious assault-suicide, detectives and the Richland County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate.
Bammann said the incident stemmed from an argument over a vehicle.
“He drove from Columbus to Florence to start a confrontation. She fled upstairs to barricade herself in a bathroom,” Bammann said. “He shot through the door multiple times. She was shot several times. Then he shot himself.”
His body was taken to Montgomery County Medical Center for an autopsy, according to the coroner’s office.
