Juneteenth celebrations in Corpus Christi kicked off June 19 on the dance floor, with many attendants wearing boots and hats as part of the “cowboy chic” theme.
Hosted by the Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education, the Liberation After Dark dance brought together celebrants of the holiday, featuring an emcee, cocktails and line dancing.
It was the first of several events planned as commemoration of Juneteenth.
Musical acts to include Bun B and Underground Frequency are scheduled for performance at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on June 20.
The headliner for the June 21 events, also at TAMU-CC, is singer Elle Varner. The performance, along with additional musical acts, is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
