Following the sweeping structure fire that broke out at the former Hudson River Psychiatric Center the afternoon of June 3, a second major structure fire was reported at the former Hudson River Psychiatric Center property the morning of June 8.
The Fairview Fire District and its mutual aid partners successfully contained the fire located at the site’s Main Administration Building, according to Fairview Fire District Chief Justin Bohlmann.
No civilian or firefighter injuries have been reported in connection with this new fire.
The Fairview Fire District was dispatched at 4:56 a.m. on June 8 following reports of heavy fire visible in the area of the Main Administration Building.
The units that arrived first were met with an active, well-involved fire, which had already consumed multiple floors of the structure.
The size and scope of the blaze led to mutual aid being requested to assist, who provided aggressive fire suppression efforts and standby coverage for the Fairview Fire District.
Firefighters deployed four elevated master streams and numerous hydrants were utilized to battle the heavy flames.
After an hour and 45 minutes, and the coordinated efforts of all the responding personnel, the fire was declared under control.
Fire suppression units continue to operate at the property to manage hot spots and ensure the area’s safety.
The cause and origin of this fire are the subject of a joint investigation by the Dutchess County Fire Investigation Bureau, the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department and the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control.
According to Bohlmann, further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
