The annual contest encourages students to proactively think about the importance of water conservation in their daily routines and promote water awareness.
“These student artists demonstrated tremendous creativity and a strong commitment to water conservation, and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts,” said Andy Koebel, BSU executive director. “By encouraging young people to develop water-saving habits today, we are helping protect our valuable water resources for generations to come.”
BSU presented each winner with an award certificate, a $50 Target gift card and a $25 Royal Scoop ice cream gift card.
Big Cypress featured in Nat Geo
On May 27, National Geographic posted a travel story entitled, “What to do in Big Cypress, Florida’s wildest hidden gem.”
The articled by Stephanie Vermillion says “spectacular stargazing, swamp walks and roadside gator sightings await adventurous travelers” at the United States’ first national preserve.
“The 729,000-acre patchwork of cypress swamps, pinelands, and prairies abuts the wetlands of Everglades National Park. Yet in Big Cypress, travelers can venture off the beaten path,” reads the article.

And one last ‘bite’ of news
This is the king of headline we need more of, “Dark chocolate may help lower ‘bad’ cholesterol.”
The article, by USA Today’s Gavin Escott, reads, “Dark chocolate’s rich flavonol content, polyphenols and anti-inflammatory effects could lead to reductions in LDL – the so-called ‘bad’ cholesterol – ‘and improvement in endothelial function,’ said Dr. Uma Naidoo, a nutritional biologist and author of the book ‘This Is Your Brain on Food.’ This is especially the case for dark chocolate with a higher cocoa content.
“In addition, dark chocolate has been linked to a reduced risk of heart disease over time, better aging and increased brain health.”
