No. 10 Florida State clinched the ACC regular-season softball title for the second-straight year on Sunday with a shutout win over Boston College, 8-0, completing a series sweep in the finale.
The Seminoles powered the victory with eight runs on 11 hits, while the pitching staff silenced the Eagles’ offense throughout the game. Three Florida State players drove in at least two runs apiece as the offense broke the game open early.
FSU scored five runs across the first two innings, getting RBI singles from Anna Hinde, Kennedy Harp, Shelby McKenzie and Ashtyn Danley. Danley and Hinde each added a second RBI on sacrifice flies, bringing home Jaysoni Beachum and Isa Torres. Danley led with three RBI, and Beachum led with three hits.
Florida State added insurance in the fourth inning after loading the bases. Beachum scored on a McKenzie walk to extend the lead to 7-0. Then added one more run on a fielder’s choice, leading to a Torres score.
Boston College struggled to generate offense against the Seminoles’ defense and pitching. Bella Dimitrijevic earned the start in the circle for FSU, with Jazzy Francik coming on in relief to preserve the shutout.
What’s next for FSU softball
Florida State now turns its focus to the postseason. The ACC Softball Tournament begins Wednesday, with the Seminoles earning a first-round bye as the top seed. FSU will face the winner of Notre Dame and Georgia Tech in the quarterfinals on Thursday, May 7, at 11 a.m. The tournament will be held in Charlottesville, Virginia.
