Authorities are advising residents to plan for road closures and detours for a sports event in Ventura and Oxnard on May 3.
California Triathlon Ventura is set to start from 7 a.m. and end before noon, but the Ventura Police Department has advised residents that the event will affect the areas around the area of Ventura Harbor, Harbor Boulevard and Spinnaker Drive from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m., according to a department social media post.
Triathlon is a sporting event with separate legs of swimming, running and biking, and Ventura’s event is no different. The swimming leg will take place in the Ventura Harbor.
Motorists may see bicyclists taking the biking route starting at Spinnaker in the harbor, go down Harbor Boulevard until Gonzales Boulevard, followed by Victoria Avenue until Fifth Street and then looping back to Harbor.
The running leg will be around the harbor and along Harbor Boulevard.
The police department has advised drivers in the area to slow down, stay alert and follow posted signage.
