Who is MrBeast on Survivor?
MrBeast, whose real name is James “Jimmy” Donaldson, is a 27-year-old YouTuber and businessman who first gained popularity in 2017 after a video of himself counting to 100,000 went viral. He is the most-subscribed creator on YouTube, with approximately 480 million followers as of April 29. He is also the highest-paid influencer on YouTube, earning $82 million, according to Forbes.
USA TODAY writes that Donaldson is a college dropout who rose to fame for posting gaming content on YouTube. He has since become known for his “large-scale challenges, massive giveaways, and high-budget philanthropic stunts,” according to Encyclopedia Britannica.
His business ventures have also expanded to include a production studio, branded products, events and competition games, such as his television show “Beast Games,” produced in conjunction with Amazon Studios. Pulling inspiration from Netflix’s “Squid Game,” NBC’s “Fear Factor” and “Survivor,” “Beast Games” pits 1,000 contestants against each other for a $5 million cash prize.
However, Donaldson has faced lawsuits, including one filed this month which alleged his companies are toxic workplaces and sexual harassment was “condoned and/or perpetuated” by supervisors, according to ABC News. A spokesperson for his companies, MrBeastYouTube LLC and GameChanger 24/7 LLC, denied the allegations.
