ROCKFORD, IL — A Rockford man has been arrested and accused in the killing of an infant.
Jaden Hearns, 27, Rockford, was arrested and taken to the Winnebago County Jail on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery to a child.
Rockford Police Department officers were called at about 8 a.m. April 26 to the 2400 block of Rose Avenue. They found an unresponsive 7-month-old infant boy who was in cardiac arrest. The infant was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced dead about 8:30 a.m., according to a news release.
An autopsy conducted by the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office found that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.
Hearns, who was known to the victim, was taken into custody. Hearns is expected to appear in court April 28 on a prosecutor’s motion to deny pretrial release.
