On Saturday night, the USC football team went on the road to Lincoln and got a 21-17 victory over Nebraska. It was not the prettiest affair by any means, but the Trojans were able to do just enough to win the football game.
What did we learn from the contest? Here are five key takeaways:
Finding a way to win
In the past, USC would find ways to lose games on the road. Against Nebraska, the Trojans found a way to win. Regardless of how ugly it was, that is a notable development.
Defense showed up
The much-criticized USC defense had its best game of the season on Saturday night. After allowing an opening drive touchdown, the Trojans gave up just ten points the rest of the game.
Jayden Maiava struggles
By contrast, quarterback Jayden Maiava had perhaps his worst game in Cardinal and Gold. Maiava completed just 9 of his 23 pass attempts for 135 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception.
Pounding the rock
With Maiava struggling, USC’s gunning game carried its offense. The Trojans rushed for over 200 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 5.3 yards per carry.
Meaningful football in November
By beating Nebraska, USC stayed alive in the Big Ten and College Football Playoff races. For the first time since 2022, the Trojans will be have something more than pride to play for in the month of November.
