Wisconsin's latest commit extends decade-long dominance over Minnesota

Baboucarr Ann’s commitment to the Wisconsin Badgers followed quite an interesting trend.

Since 2017, the Badgers have not one, not two, but 12 highly touted Minnesota high school basketball prospects.

Remember, Greg Gard came to Madison in 2015, so this has been a staple of his time with Wisconsin.

What all started with Lakeville North’s Nate Reuvers turned into Maple Grove’s Brad Davison. Safe to say, Davison may have changed Wisconsin’s recruiting trend forever.

Joe Hedstrom, Tyler Wahl, Ben Carlson, and Steven Crowl all committed to Wisconsin from 2018-20. The Badgers took a short break from winning the battle for these Minnesota high schoolers, but lately, it’s been one after another.

Jack Janicki and Nolan Winter got the party started again in 2023 with Winter’s Lakeville North teammate, Jack Robison, following suit in 2024. Daniel Freitag joined him in Wisconsin’s class of 2024.

It’s been a few years, but Wisconsin’s class of 2027 now features Maple Grove’s Jack Thelen and Baboucarr Ann. Together, those two could be a staple of the Badgers lineup, and it’s all thanks to the work Gard, and now Davison, have put in these last few years.
