Why Society Insurance’s internship program stands out nationwide

FOND DU LAC – Society Insurance has been recognized as a Best Internship Program by Employ Humanity, a leadership development and culture design organization based in Plymouth.

Fewer than 20 organizations nationwide received this distinction, which reflects Society’s ongoing commitment to fostering a workplace where early-career professionals can explore, grow and thrive, according to a community announcement.

“Internships offer a meaningful way for emerging professionals to explore their interests and build confidence through hands-on experience,” Rose McPhee, senior human resources generalist and internship coordinator at Society, said in the announcement. “We value the energy and curiosity our interns bring, and in turn, we strive to create opportunities that support learning, growth and connection.”

Since Society Insurance introduced its internship program in 2007, more than 155 college students have completed summer or full-year internships in departments throughout the company. Many interns earn job offers upon graduation or come back to Society as their careers advance. Today, more than 6% of Society’s employees are graduates of the internship program.

“My internship at Society is what started my interest in insurance,” said Brandon Van Bogaert, a premium audit intern in 2018 and now a field premium auditor II at Society. “Before starting, I wasn’t sure where my finance degree would take me. The experience gave me the framework for where I am today. Through strong management and senior-level trainers, the program helped me grow professionally in ways the classroom could not.”

“My internship with Society Insurance played a pivotal role in shaping my career,” said Lizzie Buck, a workers’ compensation claims intern in 2024 and now a commercial underwriter I at Society. “The hands-on experience, mentorship, positive culture and opportunities for growth boosted my confidence and helped me discover the path I’m truly passionate about.”
