Gary Sánchez provided a moment of thrill and perhaps inspiration for the, uh, slower-footed ballplayers of the world when he tripled April 21, part of the Milwaukee Brewers’ 12-4 handling of the Detroit Tigers.
Not only that, Garrett Mitchell followed one batter later with a triple of his own, the first back-to-back triples for the Brewers since May 4, 2015, when Héctor Gómez and Gerardo Parra did it in the sixth against Clayton Kershaw at Miller Park.
Brewers.TV hilariously shared a post of the triples side-by-side, showing that the players arrived at their destination on varying schedules.
The 6-foot-2, 251-pound Sánchez actually already had a triple in his Brewers career – two years ago when he was last with the team and clearing the bases in Oakland. He has four in his career overall.
There are 11 players in the Baseball Reference database listed at 240 pounds or greater to hit a triple for the Brewers, and, while a couple won’t surprise you, most are pretty delightful.
Here is our list:
Corey Hart (33 times)
Sorry, Corey, but you probably don’t fit the spirit of our list. Hart (6-6, 240) stole 83 bases with the Brewers and hit 33 triples. He was a good runner and only counts by the slimmest of margins. Was “slimmest” an intended pun? Who can say?
Prince Fielder (nine times)
The story here is that Prince Fielder had nine triples with the Brewers. Fielder also had a triple in the All-Star Game when he was with the Detroit Tigers and one in a regular-season game with Detroit, as well. When you find out a 5-11, 275-pound big-leaguer has 10 triples in his career, what does it make you feel? The answer is joy.
But you may know Fielder for other feats of baserunning, namely his two inside-the-park home runs.
Jesús Aguilar (twice)
The first baseman and purveyor of vibes (6-3, 277) hit both of his triples in 2017. One was in the 10th inning of a game in San Diego; unfortunately for Milwaukee, he was stranded on third, and the Brewers lost in the bottom half.
Rowdy Tellez (twice)
Can I interest you in a stand-up triple against his old teammates in Toronto? Or perhaps a ball that took just the right bounce in San Francisco? The 6-4, 270-pound fan favorite actually has three career triples, counting one in Toronto.
Rhys Hoskins (2025)
The 6-3, 241-pounder wasn’t known for his speed or anything approaching speed, but he did notch a triple July 5, 2025, scoring Jackson Chourio when a ball got past a diving Dane Myers in an eventual 4-2 loss in Miami. Unfortunately, the game had a worse fate for Hoskins when he suffered a thumb sprain and bone bruise on a throw over to first base two innings later, an injury that would keep him sidelined until he made 10 plate appearances in September.
Omar Narváez (2022)
Narváez (5-11, 240) finished a home run shy of the cycle against St. Louis on May 29, part of an 8-0 win in which Corbin Burnes dominated. Brendan Donovan’s diving attempt was for naught, sending the catcher to third, and he scored on a Lorenzo Cain base hit immediately thereafter.
Chris Carter (2016)
Carter hit 41 homers for the Brewers in his lone season with Milwaukee, 2016, but perhaps just as interesting is the 6-4, 245-pounder’s one triple – one of five in his career. It led off an inning against the Cardinals in July, but Carter didn’t score when Mike Leake retired Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Hernán Pérez and Ramón Flores in order. The year 2016 was different.
Juan Francisco (2013)
Francisco (6-2, 245) had four triples in his career, and one with Milwaukee with a booming triple to center field in Houston. He scored on the next play, but that would be the Brewers’ only run in a 10-1 loss. His tattooed baseball one-hopped and hit the 436-foot sign in center field near the in-play foul pole Richie Sexson once famously struck for just a double.
Lyle Mouton (2000)
The 6-4, 240-pound outfielder had two triples in his career, and the one he hit in Milwaukee came in an eight-run inning and wasn’t even the only triple of the inning as Milwaukee rallied for an 11-10 win in San Francisco on May 19. His triple tied the game in the seventh, and José Hernández followed with a two-run triple as the Brewers built a 10-7 lead that they’d later surrender. Ronnie Belliard won the game with a sacrifice fly in the 10th.
Jeff D’Amico (2001)
This one really stands out, mainly because it came from a pitcher. The 6-7, 250-pounder was so out of breath, he needed a drink of water during an injury break as trainers tended to Houston outfielder Richard Hidalgo after crashing into the outfield wall trying to make a play on D’Amico’s ball. Realistically, it should have been an inside-the-park home run for a player who did hit two over-the-fence shots in his career. D’Amico also allowed three earned runs in six innings in the 12-4 win April 12.
It was, oddly enough, the first triple in Miller Park history.
“Stormy [reliever David Weathers] said I looked like a runaway beer truck,” D’Amico said afterward.
Other Milwaukee Brewers pitchers with triples
Yes, the 2005 season featured two Brewers pitchers hitting a triple. Davis allowed two earned runs in seven innings in August during an 8-3 win over Cincinnati and also led off the third with a triple before scoring the first Brewers run of the game. Obermueller’s came in September in a loss to San Diego.
The most interesting belongs to Rodríguez, who only had one career hit, and the triple had another distinction. On Sept. 3, 1973, the hit became the first by an American League pitcher in the designated hitter era, which had all but erased pitchers batting in the AL.
The 21-year-old rookie right-hander from Puerto Rico didn’t believe his manager when he was asked to hit, nor did he obey the stop sign to remain at second base when third-base coach Joe Nossek told him to hold up there. The relay throw was off the mark, and Rodríguez scored on the play, to the delight of his dugout. The Brewers had lost their DH when Bobby Mitchell subbed in defensively to play left field in a game against Cleveland.
Other notable Milwaukee Brewers triples
The Brewers do have five walk-off triples in their history, though none since 1996. John Briggs’ winner in 1974 sealed a 1-0 victory over Kansas City.
Jody Gerut only hit one triple in 117 games with the Brewers, but it was a big one May 8, 2010, an RBI triple to kick off a six-run fifth against Arizona. He already had a homer and single in the game, and when he doubled in the ninth, he had a cycle in the 17-3 win.
Christian Yelich’s triple May 11, 2022, clinched his third cycle against the Reds, the only player in MLB history to record three cycles against the same franchise. The triple was also the final necessary element for a cycle Sept. 17, 2018, and Aug. 29, 2018.
Robin Yount capped his own cycle with a triple June 12, 1988, against the host Chicago White Sox.
Vinny Rottino’s game-winning single Sept. 29, 2007, against San Diego clinched the Brewers their first winning season since 1992, played on the penultimate day of the season. Down to their last out in the ninth, Tony Gwynn Jr. (son of Padres legend Tony Gwynn) hit a game-tying triple off Trevor Hoffman to tie the game.
No Brewers player has tripled three times in a game, but Hernán Pérez tripled twice and homered in a 9-1 win over Cincinnati on April 25, 2017. Pérez finished 3-for-3 with a walk and three RBIs.
Only Ted Savage (Sept. 15, 1970) has hit two triples with a homer in a Brewers game, and Milwaukee lost that game against Oakland, 6-5. Savage finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and his two-run homer turned a 4-3 deficit in the eighth to a 5-4 lead, but Bert Campaneris hit a two-run homer against Ken Sanders with two outs in the ninth.
