The Pittsburgh Pirates’ Paul Skenes is already an established superstar in the game in just his second season at 23 years old.
The Milwaukee Brewers’ Jacob Misiorowski, also 23, could be that, too, after what he’s showed in his first two starts.
They’ll face off against each other June 25 in the last game of a three-game series at American Family Field.

It’s the 2024 Rookie of the Year against the Brewers’ young hurler who’s taking the league by storm.
Skenes should be the National League All-Star starting pitcher for a second straight season next month. Ignore the 4-6 win-loss record. The Pirates offense doesn’t provide much run support for him.
He’s tied for first in all of MLB with 12 quality starts (at least six innings with three runs or fewer) in 16 total starts and his 1.85 ERA is also best in baseball.
In 102 innings, he has 106 strikeouts to 27 walks with 9.4 strikeouts per nine innings and a miniscule 0.88 WHIP.
His 4.4 WAR is the best for any pitcher in 2025. He’s well on his way to the 2025 NL Cy Young Award in just his second season.
Misiorowski needed just two starts to become the next big thing.
The right-hander who throws 100 mph with ease got the callup earlier this month and has had a historic introduction to the league. His 11 innings without allowing a hit across two starts are the most by a starting pitcher to begin a career in the modern era.
His hat is now on display in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown to recognize the accomplishment.
Misiorowski’s first start came at American Family Field June 12 when he held the St. Louis Cardinals hitless in five innings before being pulled due to cramps to start the sixth inning. Then on June 20 against the Minnesota Twins, he was just as brilliant, with six innings of perfect baseball before allowing a walk and then a home run to start the seventh inning.
