Thunderstorms, rain and cooler temperatures hit Milwaukee June 24

It’s a cool and rainy summer day in Milwaukee.

Tim Halbach, warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, said high amounts of rainfall have been collecting throughout Milwaukee the morning of Wednesday, June 24.

“We had a band of like 1 to 2 1⁄2 inches of rain overnight,” he said.

The showers are continuing throughout the morning, accompanied by some sporadic lightning and thunder.

Along with the rain, temperatures the morning of Wednesday, June 24 in Milwaukee are around 60 degrees. However, it is expected to warm up, with highs in the mid 70s and increased humidity after the first round of rain moves through, Halbach said.

There may be a lull in showers and possible clearing skies, around late morning to early afternoon, before the rainy weather returns later in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

The afternoon rounds of storms may bring severe weather, Halbach said.

“So, high winds, large hail – can’t rule out a tornado or two,” he said.

Halbach said southeastern Wisconsin could also experience some flash flooding, if Wednesday afternoon’s rounds of showers line up in the same areas that received heavy rainfall overnight and in the morning.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Halbach said temperatures will continue to trend slightly cool, with highs in the low to mid-70s.

However, a warm front will be moving in Sunday, June 28 – and it will likely bring a hot, sunny start to July.
