So far, signs are promising for Jacob Misiorowski and his right hamstring

WASHINGTON – The Milwaukee Brewers may well have avoided the worst-case scenario with regard to Jacob Misiorowski.

The right-hander went through his normal day-after-start running program prior to Saturday’s game against the Washington Nationals and reported no ill effects – undoubtedly a huge relief to both player and team alike after Misiorowski had to leave in the sixth inning of an active no-hitter on May 1 with cramping in his right hamstring.

“Everything was normal,” Misiorowski said. “I mean, anytime you have an injury or whatever you want to call it, a cramp, it’s always good to turn out on the other side better.”

Manager Pat Murphy said later Friday that the belief was Misiorowski did indeed only suffer cramping and the early signs Saturday appear to support that, as does the fact no imaging has been required.

“It seems like things are going in the right direction,” he said. “He feels good enough today to think that he feels like he’s going to be fine. We’re going to see if he can go through a normal day and see what it has in store.

“I think he’s going to be fine.”

The news wasn’t so promising on left-hander Angel Zerpa, who landed on the injured list earlier in the week with left forearm tightness.

Murphy said Zerpa has had a second opinion and that “the ball is in his court,” as to whether he decides to have surgery.

Zerpa spoke briefly about his situation but didn’t shed much light on which way he might be leaning.

“Still haven’t made any decision,” he said. “Still waiting to collaborate with [the Brewers], talk with him to figure out what would be best for me. The season is still young here. Deciding how we want to attack things and the best course of action.”

Zerpa was asked if he believes he’ll be able to return to pitching again this season.

“I’ve gone a few days without throwing here,” he said. “That’s between me and the team. There still hasn’t been a decision made on what’s going to be done.”
