Packers’ Romeo Doubs, Clubhouse Live put bow on successful toy drive

Romeo Doubs has produced some memorable moments during his time with the Green Bay Packers.

There were the career-high three touchdown grabs he had against Dallas in a Week 4 tie earlier this season.

There was that six-reception, 151-yard outing in the Packers’ 48-32 NFC wild-card win over Dallas in the 2023 season – the third-most receiving yards in a playoff game in team history.

He was also on the receiving end of Aaron Rodgers’ 500th career touchdown toss – a 13-yard back-shoulder catch in the fourth quarter against New England in Week 4 of the 2022 season. The TD tied the game and sparked the Packers’ overtime win over the Patriots.

And he etched his name into the hallowed pages of the team record book by joining Pro Football Hall of Famer James Lofton and Packers Hall of Famer Greg Jennings as the only players in Packers history with at least 40 receptions, at least 400 receiving yards and at least three receiving touchdowns in each of his first three seasons.

Not bad. But not good enough for the fourth-year wide receiver, who wants his impact to be felt just as much outside the lines as between them.

For the second straight year, Doubs teamed up with Capital Credit Union and Mayfield Sports Marketing to host a holiday toy drive that benefited Toys for Tots.

The event culminated with Doubs appearing on our Clubhouse Live show in which all the toys that had been collected at various Capital Credit Union branches were brought in and displayed and then later hauled away – with the help of two members of the United States Marine Corps – for distribution.

The show was held Monday, Dec. 15, at The Fox Club inside Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute – home of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers – and fans packed the venue to take part in a toy drive that has generated thousands of donated toys and benefited thousands of Fox Valley families over its two years.

“It’s a perspective thing,” said the 25-year-old Doubs, who signed autographs after the show for those who donated new and unwrapped toys. “At some point, everyone in here were kids, and this was something that we all wished for. So to be in a great position that I am to just be able to donate and set something crazy up like this, I just think it’s something very, very, very important.

“As a child growing up, I was not put in the best position but very much grateful of whatever I had at the time being. It just always comes down to perspective and why not do it for the kids. … I’m in a great position, and I have a wonderful opportunity to make some kids’ day, donate some toys – whatever. Just to put a smile and get a good vibe going and that we all have a very great Christmas.”

Clubhouse Live is USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin’s award-winning and weekly Packers show, and it can be seen in person Mondays at 6:30 p.m. during the football season. The show, in its 17th season, is also streamed live online.

In addition to his toy drive, Doubs has given his time for other causes and organizations and is committed to doing so in the future.

Why?

“Reflection is everything, perspective is everything,” he said. “So, as amazing as a player I may be on the field, off the field, I must … must … be the same way. It’s important.”
