Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love spent the offseason workout program focusing on calming his feet and movements in the pocket to enhance his accuracy and the timing of passing plays within Matt LaFleur’s offense entering the 2026 season.
Coaches provide players with areas of improvement every offseason. Love, who is entering his fourth season as the starter, explained his emphasis earlier this month.
“For me, my biggest thing I’ve noticed since I’ve gotten back is my feet in the pocket,” Love said. “Trying to be as smooth, as consistent as possible. When I go through my read, getting into my hitches, not getting antsy. Not trying to move through the pocket too fast, but just staying calm, staying relaxed, move through my reads. If I have to move around the pocket, keeping those movements tight and not running into where guys might be peeling off and able to hit you. Just really trying to focus on my feet, my pocket movements, I think all those things are tied into accuracy and the timing of routes. Just trying to be dialed in as possible.”
Getting antsy in the pocket can throw off the timing of a play and potentially lead to a missed opportunity or an avoidable pressured. Staying calm allows a quarterback to make subtle movements but keep eyes down the field and play on time. And while every quarterback must evade pressure and make plays off schedule, a passer is best — and most accurate — when playing from a sturdy base and a clean pocket.
Love set a career high for completion percentage at 66.3 in 2025, and he once again finished the regular season with a sack percentage under 5.0 percent. But accuracy from a clean pocket and avoiding pressure and sacks are among the most important parts of playing winning football from the quarterback position, so Love is focused on the right things.
