Milwaukee Police are investigating a fatal shooting that took place on the city’s northwest side in the afternoon hours of July 20.
A 26-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining fatal gunshot injuries, police confirmed.
The shooting occurred at about 12:55 p.m. on the 5400 block of North 55th Street, near Custer Avenue.
Milwaukee police continue to seek an unknown suspect.

This is the second fatal shooting in as many days. A 21-year-old was fatally shot in the area of 300 E. Juneau Avenue, near North Broadway, near Milwaukee School of Engineering on July 19. A 15-year-old suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound to the leg in that incident.
City officials and activists plan to host a convention on gun violence prevention
Following several fatal shootings in Milwaukee, city officials and anti-gun violence activists on July 17 announced plans to host a convention on gun violence prevention Oct. 15.
The announcement came less than a day after a 13-year-old was fatally shot on the 3200 block of West Vliet Street. Two 14-year-olds were arrested in connection with what police described as an unintentional shooting.
According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel homicide database, there have been 78 homicides in the city in 2025 so far, six more than last year at this date.
