The city of Stevens Point announced new traffic signals were installed at the Hoover Avenue intersections with Industrial Park Road and Coye Drive on Sept. 29, according to a news release.

Installation of the new signals follows years of requests for the traffic safety features. The “several hundred thousand dollars” cost of the traffic signals required planning through the city’s capital improvement budgeting process, and Common Council approved funding for the project in October 2024, according to the release.

The new traffic signals will flash red to create a four-way stop at the two intersections for the first week of their operation to help drivers get used to their presence, according to the release.

Full operation of the traffic signals will begin about a week after their installation, following the final installation of the signals’ detection systems, according to the release.
