Big Sean just went diamond.
The Detroit rapper’s celebratory diss track “IDFWU” — the clean way of saying “I Don’t F— With You” — has been certified diamond, signifying sales of 10 million units, the Recording Industry Association of America announced Wednesday.
The certification is 12 years in the making. The single, which features E-40 — who shouts out to Detroit’s MGM Grand Casino during his verse — was released in Sept. 2014, ahead of the Feb. 2015 release of Big Sean’s third studio album, “Dark Sky Paradise.”
It’s the first diamond single for both artists.
On social media, Big Sean acknowledged the milestone by paying tribute to his Bay Area partner-in-crime, alongside photos of the pair receiving their diamond certification plaques.
“@e40. Going diamond is one thing but u was really one of my favorite rappers growing up n my Step brother absolute favorite, i know he trippin right now,” Sean wrote on Instagram.
E-40 responded, “Right on family. I really appreciate it solid acknowledge solid… I’m elated to be part of your journey… not too many artists go diamond bro we did Dat!!!!!!”
“IDFWU” was produced by a team hitmakers including DJ Mustard, Kanye West and Mike Free, and it samples “Say You Love Me One More Time” by D.J. Rogers.
The track has received more than 947 million streams on Spotify and its football-themed video — directed by Detroiter Lawrence Lamont, who would go on to direct the 2025 comedy hit “One of Them Days” — has been viewed more than 394 million times on YouTube.
When it was released in 2014 as part of a four-song EP that preceded “Dark Sky Paradise,” it took off immediately, thanks in part to its virality on Vine, a micro-video app which was popular in the mid-2010s.
The song followed the under-performance of Big Sean’s 2013 album “Hall of Fame” and the breakup of his engagement to “Glee” actress Naya Rivera.
“It was truly a breakthrough for me,” Big Sean told The News in 2015, of the single. “It showed me it doesn’t even matter about trying to have a radio song; it’s just about being authentic and real and showing people why you’re an artist.”
“IDFWU” was certified gold by the end of 2014, platinum by the end of January 2015, and three-times platinum by September 2015, according to the RIAA.
For certification purposes, the RIAA counts a single permanent digital download, or 150 on-demand audio and/or video streams, as one unit.
Big Sean, 38, has 25 other solo tracks that have been certified gold, platinum or multi-platinum by the RIAA. He has two gold albums and three platinum or multi-platinum albums, and as a guest artist, he’s been featured on 20 other gold, platinum or multi-platinum singles, according to the RIAA.
He celebrated the 10-year anniversary of “Dark Sky Paradise” with a concert at Saint Andrew’s Hall in Detroit in May 2025, performing the album front-to-back live for the first time.
