A law enforcement situation that happened off school grounds near Lannon Elementary School, 7145 Lannon Road, Lannon, that originally kept students inside has now been resolved.
The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department has given the district clearance to allow students outside. Dismissal procedures will carry on as normal this afternoon, Lannon Elementary School principal Brian Balfany said in an emailed message to parents May 21.
The school day ends at 3:50 p.m.; students will not be held late, according to Nicole Koglin, director of communications for the Hamilton School District.
A 40-year-old man was inside a nearby residence and was not welcome by the homeowner, according to a news release from the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department. The department responded at about 11:42 a.m. to assist the Village of Lannon Police Department.
The man, who had an active felony warrant out for his arrest, refused commands to exit the residence. He was taken into custody without incident, according to the sheriff’s department.
Lannon Elementary School was placed on lockdown as a precaution; the lockdown was lifted once the incident was safely resolved, according to the department’s release. The department did not identify the man and referred any further questions about the incident to the village Police Department. Police did not immediately respond to a reporter’s phone call or email.
In an earlier news release, the district said the school was on a “hold,” which meant instruction continued as normal and that students were to remain indoors until the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department gave an all clear.
Lannon Elementary School is part of the Hamilton School District in Waukesha County. The school had an enrollment of 367 students for the 2025-26 school year, according to Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction data.
