Kwik Trip has debuted a new mascot: Red, a tall, white chicken in a red Kwik Trip T-shirt.
The convenience store chain has announced plans to send Red to its stores across the Midwest for a series of meet-and-greet events, which will feature photo opportunities and giveaways, according to its website.
Red’s tour began with March 24 stops at stores in La Crosse and Columbus, and is scheduled to continue throughout April and into early May.
What happened to Kwik Trip’s old mascot?
Red’s debut spells the end for Kwik Trip’s old mascot, a multi-colored creature known as “The Urge,” meant to represent the sudden desire for a snack.
Kwik Trip launched a line of snacks under the “Urge!” banner in 1987, and the mascot was present in branding and commercials alongside Kwik Trip products soon after.
In a video posted to social media March 19, Kwik Trip staff parodied a scene from “The Office” in order to hold a makeshift funeral for the now former mascot.
