Horse-drawn carriage and vehicle collision in Manitowoc County results in one death

CATO – One person died and another suffered injuries in a horse-drawn carriage and vehicle collision in the township of Cato mid-morning June 15.

An initial investigation indicated a 42-year-old woman from Brillion driving a 2020 GMC Terrain east on U.S. Highway 10 struck a horse-drawn carriage also traveling east near Maertz Road, Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office reported.

EMS and fire personnel responded to the scene around 8:55 a.m. A 27-year-old man operating the carriage and a 13-year-old passenger were both ejected from the carriage. The 27-year-old died, and the 13-year-old was transported by ambulance for injuries.

A news release said the Wisconsin State Patrol is conducting a crash reconstruction.
