At around 5:55 p.m., the fire department responded an area east of the East River after receiving a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian incident. While en route to the scene, first responders learned the vehicle had struck two pedestrians before entering a nearby retention pond.

After arriving at the scene, fire personnel immediately began administering emergency medical aid to two pedestrians who had been struck by the vehicle. Due to the large area of the incident and the number of patients, the fire department requested additional fire units and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team.

Lt. Christopher Tappen of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office said several individuals, including a sheriff’s deputy, enteredthe water to aid the driver but were unsuccessful. Green Bay Metro Fire Department arrived with rescue swimmers but were unable to reach the driver.

Glenn’s Towing subsequently recovered the vehicle from the pond.

Despite life-saving efforts, the driver of the submerged vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

One pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, while the second pedestrian was treated and released at the scene.

The Green Bay Metro Fire Department was also assisted at the scene by Brown County Public Safety Communications, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.
