Deputy shoots self during training at WCTC firing range

A Waukesha County sheriff’s deputy shot themself in the foot during a Jan. 13 training session at a firing range, according to Waukesha County Technical College and the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred around 8:23 a.m. at the college’s firing range, 800 W. Main St. in Pewaukee, WCTC said in a statement. Deputies were attending department training when a firearm was unintentionally discharged, according to the sheriff’s office.

The deputy received treatment at a hospital, then was released. No other injuries were reported.

The firing range is not open to the public and is used for criminal justice training and rented to law enforcement agencies, according to WCTC.

WCTC said Village of Pewaukee law enforcement is investigating the incident.
