Clipper City Chordsmen seek men to join concert to raise funds for music in schools

MANITOWOC – The Clipper City Chordsmen is inviting area men to share their voices with the Chordsmen for a limited time to help raise money for music education in Manitowoc County.

Last September, the Chordsmen raised more than $7,000 and shared the entire amount with area schools by sending checks for $650 to every high school music program in Manitowoc County.

This September, they want to surpass that total with a goal of $10,000. A challenge grant of $2,000 has been provided to help start the effort.

Here’s how it will work:

Sept. 20, the Chordsmen will host “Teach the World to Sing” at 1 p.m. at the Franciscan Center for Music Education and Performance, 6751 Calumet Ave., Manitowoc.

In addition to musical performances, a raffle of multiple gift baskets will be held.

Admission will be by free-will donation, but every dollar donated will go directly to area schools.

Participating with the Chordsmen will be choruses from Valders High School and Lutheran High School.

To make the day more special, the Chordsmen are reaching out to men in the community who may be willing to learn three songs along with the Chordsmen and to sing with them on stage at the end of the show.

A news release said there is no obligation to join the Chordsmen and participants won’t be required to memorize the songs.

Special rehearsals will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on five Tuesdays starting Aug. 19 at Grow It Forward at the corner of 15th and Marshall streets in Manitowoc. Since this is also the Chordsmen’s regular rehearsal time, participants can stay through the full rehearsal, which runs until 9 p.m., but they will have a short break at 7:30 p.m.

Anyone interested in joining can email info@clippercitychordsmen.org to receive a link to the musical charts and recorded learning tracks to the three songs. People can also call 920-973-SING (7464) or go to clippercitychordsmen.org, where they can make a tax-deductible contribution.
