Bucks fans want to see great players we can embrace as ours | Letters

The operators of the Milwaukee Bucks consistently misunderstand the team’s fans.

I did not get over trading Kareem Abdul-Jabbar until they drafted Ray Allen. Then, the team traded him, too. We had to watch Abdul-Jabbar win with our hated rivals, the Lakers, and Allen with our despised rivals, the Celtics.

They finally win a championship. Then they mismanage their draft picks, trade for Damian Lillard, and finally, fail to appreciate Giannis Antetokounmpo only wants to play the game. In Milwaukee.

Both Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis Jr. love Milwaukee, and we love them back. Bucks fans do not expect the team to win titles. If we did, the Bucks would have been driven out of town long ago. We want a reason to come to the games. We want to watch a great player we embrace. We want to say to our daughters and sons, “You’ll never see another like him.” We want a reason to believe not only in the team’s success, but that a great player is ours.

I could not forgive them for losing Abdul-Jabbar until Allen came along. I could not forgive them for losing Allen until Antetokounmpto. Now? I’ll never forgive them again.

Milwaukee will miss ‘people’s champ’ Bobby Portis Jr.

Much has been and will be written and said about the Milwaukee Bucks trade this week and, rightfully so, Giannis Antetokounmpo will be the focus.

But let’s not lose sight of the “people’s champ” (Bobby Portis Jr.) Bobby, you embraced Milwaukee and we embraced you like few others that have worn the Bucks jersey. Thank you for the passion you brought to the court every night. Best wishes as you go forward through the rest of your career. You will be missed.
