PHOENIX – Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Kyle Harrison left his start after the third inning with a blister on his left index finger, but manager Pat Murphy expressed minimal concern for the left-hander missing time.
“He’s had issues with it in the past,” Murphy said. “It has a lot to do with how he’s gripping his changeup. Something we want to get out of control of early.”
Harrison may take a day off from throwing, Murphy added, but will “be on track soon.”
The lefty’s velocity went down as the game went on, from 94.6 mph in the first to 93.1 in the third. With the sweltering 100-degree heat beating down, the Brewers opted to pull him.
Jake Bauers continued his torrid spring with a fourth homer of Cactus League play. Luis Rengifo also went deep for the Brewers.
Tough springs continued for Garrett Mitchell (batting .080), Christian Yelich (.105) and Sal Frelick (.175) in a combined 0-for-10 showing.
Mariners 7, Brewers 3 (split squad)
Tyler Black went 2 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs and Cooper Pratt was 3 for 3 with a pair of runs scored in the Brewers’ loss.
Carlos Rodriguez started and gave up four runs over four innings before ceding to Easton McGee, who surrendered three runs in an inning of work.
