Oconomowoc police arrested someone at Silver Lake Intermediate School for lodging a threat it deemed noncredible.
A family notified school administrators about a potential safety threat the morning of June 3, prompting the Oconomowoc Police Department and Western Lakes Fire District to arrive at the school. The investigation included student and family interviews, video footage and searching the building, Oconomowoc Area School District manager of communications and marketing Kelly Ellifson said in an email.
Authorities determined the threat was unsubstantiated, she said. Regular school operations resumed at 9:30 a.m.
Oconomowoc Police Department lieutenant Branden Cedarwall said a student made a broad threat involving an explosive device on social media. The threat was not targeted toward a specific student or school, but because the person of interest was inside the school when the threat was made, it was insinuated the threat was directed at the school.
Cedarwell said the department took someone into custody at the school, but declined to provide more information. The investigation is ongoing and charges may be referred to the Waukesha County District Attoreny’s Office.
