The Wisconsin Badgers’ spring sports coaches have received their customary one-year contract extensions.
At its June 3 meeting the UW Athletic Board approved extensions for softball coach Yvette Healy, men’s golf coach Mike Wilson, women’s golf coach Todd Oehrlein, men’s rowing coach Beau Hoopman, women’s rowing coach Vicky Opitz, men’s tennis coach Danny Westerman and women’s tennis coach Marek Michalicka.
The one-year contract extensions are standard practice for Wisconsin’s head coaches.
Each of UW’s winter sports coaches received similar contract extensions in April, and most of UW’s fall sports coaches received extensions in February. The exception was football coach Luke Fickell after the Badgers’ four-win season in 2025.
Healy, whose contract now goes through June 30, 2031, led the Badgers in 2026 to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2022. UW defeated Baylor before falling to host Texas and Baylor in a rematch in the Austin regional. She was hired at UW in 2010.
Oherlein, Wilson and Westerman’s contracts now expire on May 31, 2031. Opitz and Hoopman’s contracts expire on June 30, 2031. Michalicka’s contract – a three-year agreement instead of five years – expires on May 31, 2029.
Men’s tennis appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2017 and reached the second round for the fifth time in program history. Women’s tennis reached the NCAA Tournament before falling to Baylor in the first round in Michalicka’s first season.
Women’s golf finished 18th in the 2026 Big Ten tournament, and men’s golf was tied for 16th in the 18-team conference. Women’s rowing finished 11th at the Big Ten championships. Men’s rowing finished 16th in the national championships, and women’s lightweight rowing finished sixth at the national championships.
