Oshkosh father accused of giving gun to teenage son

OSHKOSH – An Oshkosh man has been charged with three felonies — possession of a firearm by a felon, receiving stolen firearms and providing a dangerous weapon to a person under 18 — in a gun incident involving his teenage son.

If convicted, Adam L. Davis, 42, could face close to 20 years in prison. He also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of a firearm while intoxicated and disorderly conduct.

What the criminal complaint says

According to court documents, Davis was previously convicted of manufacturing/delivering cocaine in both 2002 and 2003, precluding him from possessing firearms

His 17-year-old son was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18, obstructing an officer and disorderly conduct stemming from the same May 25 incident.

The elder Davis made his initial appearance in Winnebago County Circuit Court May 28, with his bond being set at $5,000. Further proceedings are scheduled for June 4 before a preliminary hearing June 8.

What police say happened May 25

Authorities responded to a weapon complaint around 12:15 a.m. May 25 at 835 Wisconsin St. after a woman said she saw an adult hand a gun over to a kid during a disturbance with a group of people and children, according to court documents.

Police said the woman’s doorbell camera caught the elder Davis saying “how about we fight right now” before his son responded by asking for a gun.

In the criminal complaint, Davis told his son “Stop grabbing my f—ing gun” before he is seen with a gun in his right hand.

Police contend the son told his father there was a doorbell camera, with Davis saying, “I don’t give a s—, stop grabbing my s—.”

According to the criminal complaint, Davis is seen handing the gun to his son before a later clip shows the son concealing a gun.

Authorities said Davis denied consent to search the apartment before he was taken into custody while the son told police one of the males threatened to kill his father.

The son said he was previously physically assaulted by the male in question, the complaint said.

Law enforcement said the son repeatedly denied seeing or touching a gun before he was arrested.

What officers found in the apartment

In the court document, police said they executed a search warrant of the Davis’ apartment and found a female with a gun.

She told police she was hanging out with the son and went to sleep around 10 or 11 p.m., adding the gun was there when she went to bed.

Officers said they found three stolen guns, including one with a loaded magazine and a green laser underneath the barrel, and four containers of THC resin.

Assistant District Attorney Amanda Folger is prosecuting the case with Judge Michael Rust presiding.
