An Appleton police officer rescued a fawn whose leg was injured.
After someone called to report the fawn, Appleton police brought it, nicknamed “Bambi,” to Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary to receive care.
The department said that while this case ended up meriting rescue, many fawns that people encounter do not need help. It’s normal for mother deer to leave fawns lying quietly in grass, brush or near trees while they feed nearby, to avoid drawing the attention of predators.
If a fawn does appear injured, is wandering or crying, or has drooping or curled ears, contact the animal care team at Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary at 920-391-3685.
“We want to keep wildlife wild whenever possible — but we’re always here to help, regardless of who might need our assistance,” Appleton police said.
