One day after powerful storms and a tornado swept across Wisconsin, tens of thousands remain without power.
We Energies, which services southeastern Wisconsin as well as the Fox Valley and surrounding areas, had more than 46,000 customers without power as of 8:55 a.m. July 28. Most of those were in Kenosha County, which reported more than 20,450 customers with no power.
Outagamie and Winnebago counties, which experienced an estimated EF-2 tornado July 27, had more than 8,800 and 6,600 customers without power, respectively.
Wisconsin Public Service and Alliant Energy, which provide power to other parts of the state, reported far fewer outages. Wisconsin Public Service reported around 930 customers out as of 8:30 a.m., with the majority in Oneida and Vilas counties. Alliant Energy had only around 50 customers with no power.
In a July 27 Facebook post, We Energies shared that crews have been repairing extensive damage from snapped poles, downed wires and fallen trees.
“We sincerely appreciate your patience as our crews tackle this extensive damage and work around the clock until every last customer has their power restored,” a spokesperson said in the Facebook video.
The number of customers without power was much higher July 27, reaching over 120,000 at one point shortly after the storms rolled through.
