Wichita Falls woman dies, 3 others hurt in Archer County crash

A Wichita Falls woman was killed and three other people were injured Monday in a four-vehicle wreck at the intersection of U.S. 281 and FM 1954 in Archer County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The DPS said a 2024 Chevrolet Trax SUV driven by Wichitan Vicki Elaine Windham, 79, was traveling west on FM 1954 approaching a flashing red stop light at the intersection with the highway. A Kenworth semi-trailer truck was traveling north on the highway and approaching the intersection.

At the same time, a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox SUV and a 2020 Honda CRV SUV were traveling south on the highway.

The DPS release said Windham’s vehicle entered the intersection, pulled in front of the semi, and both vehicles went into a ditch on U.S. 281. The truck trailer swung to the right and collided with the Equinox and Honda.

Windham was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver, Noel Pacheco Zapien, 63, of Hudson, Colorado, was brought to United Regional in Wichita Falls with serious injuries.

The driver of the Equinox, Anthony Richard Corbitt, 31,of Springtown, declined medical treatment. The driver of the Honda, Laura Ann Tischendorf, 57, of Longmont, Colorado, was brought to the hospital for treatment on minor injuries.
