Wichita Falls forum Wednesday to focus on funding for unhoused people.

The city of Wichita Falls will host a public forum on at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Travel Center Conference Room, 306 Scott Avenue, to gather residents’ input on a proposed substantial amendment to the Program Year 2021 Annual Action Plan, according to a media release from the city.

The media release said the amendment would reallocate $94,490 in unreserved HOME-American Rescue Plan funds to support local homelessness and housing stability efforts.

According to the media release, the proposed reallocation would provide funding to The Salvation Army of Wichita Falls to expand the women and children’s wing of its shelter facility.

Planned improvements include renovated living space, additional Americans with Disabilities Act-accessible bathrooms, showers and laundry facilities, increasing shelter capacity from 12 to 20 beds, and expanding the number of individuals served annually, the media release said.

Additionally, the city will also receive public comment on the proposed Program Year 2026 Annual Action Plan, the media release said.

The plan outlines proposed housing, public service, neighborhood improvement and community development projects funded through approximately $1.23 million in Community Development Block Grant funds and $346,455 in HOME Investment Partnership Program funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, along with $100,000 in carry-forward funding.

The media release said the funding allocations include support for child care subsidies, Meals on Wheels services, elderly and disabled home repairs, shelter and food pantry improvements, code enforcement and demolition activities, homeowner repair programs and public improvement projects, including park art and literacy installation.
