2027 five-star linebacker Kaden Henderson announced on Tuesday that he has moved up his commitment date to Thursday, which is one day before his scheduled official visit with Notre Dame.
Fighting Irish coach Marcus Freeman and his staff reportedly have made significant progress with the blue-chip defender, who received a prediction earlier this spring to land with Texas A&M.
However, the efforts of Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and new linebackers coach Travis Williams should not be overlooked, especially after Henderson’s official visit that nearly sealed the deal weeks ago. Still, it’s fair to state that, even though the Aggies have nearly secured the No. 1-ranked recruiting class, including a nation’s best five five-star commits, Notre Dame has already recruited at an extremely high level this offseason.
Trusting the recruiting experts, including AggieYell insider (subscription required) Joseph Hastings, Texas A&M should still be considered, quoting Hastings, the slight favorite despite the Fighting Irish’s late push. However, it’s important to note this recruiting battle, even with LSU in the mix, will come down to the final hours before his Thursday announcement.
Hastings stated that playing in the SEC is also a factor that could come into play. Combined with his strong relationship with the Aggie coaching staff, it’s not surprising that Texas A&M continues to lead. It is also worth noting Marcus Freeman is a former linebacker, and Notre Dame has a long history of producing All-American linebackers.
If Notre Dame wins the first battle on Thursday, Mike Elko and Travis Williams will maintain a healthy line of communication with Kaden Henderson and attempt to flip him down the line.
