Mexico’s knockout path remains a moving target, with no clear opponent yet, but a confirmed date, time and stage already set.
The third-place team from either Mexico plays the third-place team from either Group C, E, F, H, or I. Unlike the United States, Mexico’s spot in the bracket is too fluid to predict. Heading into the afternoon matches on Wednesday, June 24, the three most likely possibilities were Scotland (27%), Ecuador (22%), or Cabo Verde (10%), but Scotland’s struggles against Brazil had even those vague numbers in flux.
Mexico may have to wait until the group stages are complete on June 27 to know their next opponent, but they know it will be on June 30 at 7 p.m. MT/8 p.m. CT at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
