Where does Texas A&M's batting average rank among SEC teams?

Texas A&M (17-3, 1-2 SEC) left Norman 1-2 in SEC play after dropping two games against the Oklahoma Sooners, but rebounded on Tuesday against Texas State, defeating the visitors 9-6 after trailing 4-0 early in the game. However, Thursday’s news that senior reliever Josh Stewart will miss the rest of the season due to an unspecified injury was not the news Aggie fans wanted before A&M’s second SEC weekend series.

Set to host Georgia (18-4) for a three game series in Blue Bell Park, second-year head coach Michael Earley will need to rely on his offense to match the Bulldogs, who currently lead the SEC with an eye-popping 69 home runs, and while the Aggies’ starting pitching staff has been solid, nothing is guaranteed in conference play, especially against Georgia’s lethal lineup.

Last season, Texas A&M’s offense couldn’t be trusted during the first part of SEC play, and while the power was there, especially home run record holder Jace LaViolette’s performance, consistency was an issue, but things have changed with Chris Hacopian and Wesley Jordan entering the lineup, providing experienced bats to join the current home run leader Caden Sorrell (11).

Among all 16 SEC teams, the Aggies are currently third in the batting average (.326) with 36 home runs and will now take on Georgia, which is currently hitting an SEC-leading .343 with 69 home runs through 22 games. While the recent injuries on the mound could result in some issues down the line, Texas A&M’s offense should come through in the clutch, starting this weekend.

Texas A&M will host Georgia on Friday at 6:00 p.m., available to stream on SEC Network+.
