Texas A&M offers rising 2027 3-star DB and Miami (OH) commit

Texas A&M’s future safety rotation will look vastly different in 2027, knowing that starters Dalton Brooks, Marcus Ratcliffe, and, possibly, Colorado transfer Tawfiq Byard will depart for the NFL Draft, likely leading to transfer additions to shore up one of the more important positions on the roster.

However, Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting class, made up of 12 blue-chip commitments, including five-star safety Kamarui Dorsey and four-star safety JayQuan Snell, who are both considered elite playmakers with the versatility to play either safety spot and earn playing time as soon as they make their way to campus.

Still, even with Snell and Dorsey in the fold, third-year coach Mike Elko and his staff have reportedly offered and undervalued 2027 safety prospect, as three-star safety Errol Kerns is now on the Aggies radar, despite already committing to Miami (OH) late last month.

After two seasons at the helm and his time as the Aggies’ defensive coordinator (2018-2021), Elko is widely considered an elite talent evaluator, and after seeing a record 10 players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, offering Errol Kerns makes perfect sense. During his 2025 junior season at Lawrence Central, the Indiana native recorded an impressive 90 tackles, four tackles for loss, five pass breakups, and three interceptions.

Standing 5’11” and nearly 200 pounds, Kerns’ 2025 film shows a player who should be receiving more national attention due to his impressive speed as a standout kick returner, while his physical play as a boundary safety makes him a perfect fit in Elko and new defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill’s scheme.
